Head Start is a preschool program for low-income children. While most children are age 4 when they enter the program, a limited number of 3 year olds are also enrolled. With the addition of Early Head Start, children from birth through age 3 and pregnant mothers also receive services. A minimum of 90 percent of the total enrollment must meet low-income eligibility standards, and at least 10 percent must be children with disabilities.

Volunteer in a classroom to read, play, and help with crafts. Orientation every Tuesday, 9 am- 12:00 pm, 7 locations. Make your own schedule.

The Advocacy Center is a non-profit organization located in New York State that educates, supports, and advocates with people who have disabilities, their families, and circles of support.

Volunteer to help with office support activities. Tasks could include answering the agency's telephone, typing, filing, data entry and other office projects. Afternoons are our greatest need for coverage. The Advocacy Center hosts fundraising activities on a periodic basis. The Center for Youth provides free and confidential services to youth, ages 12-21 and their families.

The Cerebral Palsy Association of the Rochester Area exists to support people with physical and developmental disabilities in choosing and accomplishing successive individualized life goals. Volunteer to be a swim assistant for our preschool program. Volunteers will assist program staff in offering a safe swim opportunity for children ages 18 months to 5 years. Need to be available at various times during the school day, Monday through Thursday. Volunteer to be a horseback riding assistant to assist disabled young riders in a therapeutic setting.  Volunteer must be available at least one hour per six week session.  Volunteer to be a classroom aide, assisting staff in a preschool setting, working one-on-one with children, assisting with feeding, helping clean and setup classroom.  Assist with labeling bulk mailings and/or stuffing envelopes or provide support to staff in areas of filing, copying, data input.

CASA of Rochester is an organization dedicated to helping children unable to stand up for themselves in the light of abuse and neglect. Court Appointed Special Advocates are appointed to foster care cases by Monroe County Family Court judges to assist in foster care cases to ensure that the needs of the child are visible to the courts.

Advocate for an abused or neglected child. 30 hour training session in classroom and Family Court will prepare you to be sworn-in and assigned a case where you will advocate for an abused or neglected child who no longer can reside in their family structure. Junior Achievement is a non-profit agency that arranges for volunteers from the Rochester business community to partner with elementary-, middle-, and high-school classrooms to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business, and economics to improve the quality of their lives.
Volunteers are needed from the Rochester business community to spend five hours with an elementary (K-6) classroom being a role model and sharing their life experiences. Training and class activities are provided by Junior Achievement. Volunteers must have work experience and be able to volunteer during the work/school day.

Juvenile Accountability Conferencing offers the youthful offender the opportunity to take responsibility for his/her wrongful offense and to be reintegrated back into the community.

Volunteer to supervise and work alongside youth ages 6-15 yrs required to perform community service projects. Project COPE is a faith-based federally funded community mentoring program through HOPE Initiatives, CDC that centers on a relational approach of supporting children and families in Monroe County who are affected by incarceration.

Saint’s Place is a Christian values-based ministry that assists people, regardless of their race or creed, seeking a fresh start. Talents, resources, and time are shared with those who have suffered because of violence, injustice, war, discrimination, and poverty.

Volunteer to be a Student Advocate/Tutor/or Driver: minimum of 1 day per week (Thursday from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm) to counsel refugee students at the Saint's Place Ministry Center. Volunteer must work the school year. Each volunteer will be paired with a student to assist in understanding and completing their homework assignments. Volunteers must also be willing to work as a liaison for the student in case school supplies or other support is needed. Students range in age from 5 to 18. Drivers are especially needed to bring the students to the program and back home again each week.

The Society for the Protection and Care of Children provides counseling and advocacy for children and families.
Volunteer to monitor once-a-week, one-hour visits between children and parents who are involved in adversarial custody proceedings. These are held at the agency's offices. Fundraising Assistants are needed to help with the annual golf tournament as well as many other fundraisers throughout the year. After-school program at Clara Barton School #2 needs tutors, mentors, and homework helpers. If you have a hobby or an area of expertise or interest, you can come in and share this with the children. Donate balls, basketballs, board games, bubbles, crafts supplies: construction paper, glue sticks, bead kits, models to assemble, markers, crayons, writing paper, paper for drawing, diapers, large household items (new): sheets, blankets, dishes, silverware, jump ropes, Play-Doh, snack items, individually wrapped.
